Classes of hosting services

A hosting solution includes keeping and/or sharing given web content on a web server run by a website hosting vendor. There are different kinds of hosting services used for various aims, so let's examine these. Doing so, you can conclude what you need, based on whether you desire to have a web page, mail accounts, or to share files with buddies and colleagues.

- File hosting: a service made available by various providers, which enables you to share big files. These could be disk images, movies, audio files, archived documents, and so on. This solution is also known as file storage, and its sole function is to share files, since it does not offer site uploading. Once the files are uploaded, you will either obtain an accidentally created download link for each of them, or you will be able to view a record of all the files in a directory, but you will not be able to see .html or .php web files in your browser. Free file storage solutions are often supported by exhibiting ads by the download links, while a timer forces you to wait for a given interval of time to perceive them. A single file can be downloaded with restricted speed. If you get a paid file storage account, there are no limitations as to how many files you can upload/download straight away, and also there is no restriction as far as the download speed and the file size are concerned.

These days, with the help of the cPanel hosting merchants, "file hosting" is being renamed to the more faddish "cloud hosting". This is a totally amiss interpretation of the real meaning of "cloud hosting". An actual cloud website hosting system would assign the workload between separate sets of web hosting servers in a cluster, which are committed to attending various web site hosting services (email, data storage, stats, DNS, databases, web site hosting CP, and so on.) So, the file hosting service is only a brand of a storage space hosting solution, not a cloud hosting one. It's not even near.

- Image hosting: comparable with file hosting; certain firms offer a hosting solution for images only. This hosting brand is suitable if you want to share a huge quantity of pics with friends or acquaintances since the solution is mostly free of cost. You will obtain a random link for each and every pic or album and you can subsequently share this link. As with the file storage solution, .html and .php files are not compatible, so the solution cannot be used for websites.

- E-mail hosting: a solution dedicated to administering your mail aliases. Some vendors offer site hosting solutions for websites, but do not provide an e-mail service. If you wish to run an email address with your domain name but do not want to run a website, then the e-mail hosting service is what you need. You can create mailbox accounts and administer them, but there will be no web service for the domains. The email hosting service includes incoming POP/IMAP and outgoing SMTP e-mail servers.

- Video hosting: this solution permits you to upload and share video clips. You can either share a link to a specific video, or you can embed the video file in your web page that is hosted somewhere else. The benefit of utilizing this approach in lieu of uploading the video in a web hosting account is that the video file generates a particular amount of central processing unit load, so with a few video clips and a few hundred web page visitors, you may have a hard time with your web hosting supplies. Embedding the video clip will permit you to possess as many videos as you desire without bothering about system quotas.

- Web page hosting: this is the service that you require if you would like to run a website. To some extent, it contains all of the abovementioned hosting brands since, along with your websites, you can also host images and files, you can set up databases and mailbox accounts, upload videos, and so on. At SupremeServer, for example, you can have a glance at web hosting and dedicated web server hosting services that permit you to have all of the aforesaid solutions in a single location. There may be limitations based on the form of hosting solution that you've opted for - a free hosting plan, a paid shared hosting package, a VPS or a dedicated server. Depending on that, your webspace hosting package may be better or worse compared to the common e-mail/file/video/image hosting plans that are designed for particular content only.
